More than 70 participants attended the 1st EDUBOTS Conference, conducted virtually on June 22nd.
In the morning, the keynote session was hosted by Edubots partner, Andri Ioannou, Team Leader in CYENS (EdMedia Group) and Associate Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, where she facilitated a conversation with Prof. Rupert Wegerif from Cambridge University (UK), and Senior Researcher Asbjørn Følstad from SINTEF (Norway). The scholars shared their thoughts and vision for the future role of chatbots in education. The inspiring speeches were titled: “Edubot adventures in dialogic space” by Rupert Wegerif and “Towards successful chatbots? What research can teach us” by Asbjørn Følstad.
In the afternoon session “Understanding chatbots”, Loizos Michael, founding member of CYENS leading the research pillar on Artificial Intelligence and Communications and Associate Professor at the Open University of Cyprus, gave an inspiring speech on “Chatbots 4.0: Individualized, Interactive, and Introspective”. Loizos Michael elaborated on how the design of the new generation of chatbots can draw on learning theory and educational psychology to allow chatbots to engage in dialogic interactions with humans towards building the chatbot’s intelligence.
